Basque Country: gastronomy and art
The Basque Country is located in the Northern part of Spain, in the border with France. Basque language and culture can also be found in Navarre (Spain) and Southern France.
When we think about Spain, many peoeple might imagine an arid land because of the strong sunshine, but Northern Spain, including the Basque Country, is actually called "Green Spain", because of its verdure, its beautiful mountains and its clear waters.
Other than Spanish, Basque language is the cooficial language spoken in the Basque Country. It is said to be the oldest language in Europe and its origins are still nowadays unkown.
Recently in addition to its artistic cities, the Basque Country is becoming famous for its gastronomy.
Surronded by sea and mountains, the region developped a unique local cuisine offering sea products as fish, but also soil products as meat or delicious vegetables.
Sea products are usually enjoyed with rice or potatoes, which makes Japanese people very happy.
This is why recently Basque cuisine is also becoming famous in Japan, and there are already many Basque cuisine restaurants in Tokyo.
